The common gantry crane design has been typically used in outdoor applications because it is very effective for projects where there is no current runway structure or building.
Now a days it is just as familiar to see gantries being used for indoor applications as well because of a few essential factors.
There are a seemingly increased number of long buildings that are built with spans that are not supported. These types of buildings offer a more open layout and they also have a less congested floor area; therefore allowing the gantry crane to operate directly on the facility floor as both an economical and practical material handling solution. When using a gantry crane system there is no longer a need for beam structures, runway columns, or concrete foundations; therefore allowing you to have more of an uncluttered floor area. Over the years we have seen many smaller manufacturing business and fabrication shops open up shop within leased properties such as industrial style “mini mall” units. These types of buildings are not usually built to withhold the dynamic loads that would be forced upon the building by an overhead bridge crane. This is another great environment for gantry cranes and they have proven to be both a feasible and a cost effective piece of material handling equipment. Another great feature of the gantry crane is that a business can take the entire crane with them to a new location if they ever decide to move. Gantries know to be very portable and they will not affect the structure of your facility.

What is “lean manufacturing”? Many different types of companies are now dividing their manufacturing process into “cell process zones”. This is a manufacturing system that incorporates precise processes within a large process. A great example of lean manufacturing would be a central processing zone utilizing an overhead travelling crane with a 60 foot span, and having a specific process area within the central zone that needs a 30 foot span crane devoted to the specific process at all times. In this type of common scenario a semi-gantry crane would be perfect to get the job done as it is would have a self-supported leg on one end running along the floor and the other endtruck would use a single side of the existing overhead runway.
“Tracker” Gantry CraneIf the design of your facility is prohibiting you from installing an overhead crane or a runway system then the MCU gantry crane hoist is the answer for you. It is a cost effective piece of material handling equipment with one set of steel wheels running along a rail bar that is secured to the floor so that liquid, power cables, and other obstructions will not be a hindrance. The set of wheels on the opposite side of the tracker run along the shop floor and have a very durable urethane surface. These little lifting systems can be set up on any smooth concrete surface. In many cases companies have found that using two tracker cranes on the same runway can be highly effective for their production.

The tracker comes as an engineered kit with a gantry hoist and electrical connections that are pre-wired making it easy to set up. If your employees do not feel comfortable installing the crane then one of our local service technicians will be able to assist you with the installation.
These versatile systems come in a number of different sizes ranging from a 1 ton capacity to a 5 ton gantry crane. As a standard they can lift between 8 and 20 feet in height and they can span to 30 plus feet. All crane functions can come equipped with single, dual, or variably controlled motions.
